Don’t forget these important bathroom remodeling points

General September 30th, 2009

Bathrooms and kitchens are two of the biggest and most complicated rooms to remodel. This is mostly because of the plumbing. Anytime you’re dealing with water and the potential damage it can cause you have to step up the level of complexity for any project and make sure it’s done safety and correctly.

Here are a few basic tips and reminders before you dig into your next big bathroom overhaul.

1. If you’re thinking of replacing or adding a tub or glass shower enclosure, be sure the floor can hold the weight, and not just the weight of the tub itself. It has to hold all the water and a person (or people), too, which is something a lot of people forget. The end result can be over 1/2 a ton.

2. If you’re just doing a simple caulking job, be sure to fill the whirlpool tub with water before caulking so the tub will expand and keep the caulk from cracking due to tub movement later on.

3. For cleaning a shower stall door that is always scummy try rubbing it with mineral oil so it will be shiny and clear.

Redoing a bathroom can be very satisfying, especially if you’re giving it a major facelift and either adding a creature comfort or repairing a broken one. Just be sure to handle it correctly and if you’re unsure then please consult a professional. In the end it will save you so much money (instead of paying to repair your mistakes) that you’ll save time and headache as well.

General September 30th, 2009

Why spend the little free time you have watching poor quaility images on an older TV when you can enjoy your favorite shows, movies, and games in bright, crisp color?

The price of HD Ready Plasma TVs have been reducing and further saving can be found by using HDTV price comparison websites.

If you’ve been wanting a plasma TV but needed the justification to do so, there are numerous reasons for purchasing plasma TVs.

First, of course, is picture quality. Because plasma TVs are made up of (thousands of individual|individual} pixels, each pixel can display any one of billions of colors, making images seem like real life.

Third, with a plasma TVs you no longer have to have a home theater system that is four feet deep. Plasma TVs are usually less than six inches deep and can easily be mounted on a wall or hung from the ceiling.

Fourth, plasma HDTVs are simply the technology today.

After you’ve decided to purchase a new HDTV, you need to choose the right HDTV from among the many plasma TVs on the market? Here are five things to consider:

1. Screen Size: When it comes to plasma TVs, bigger is best if you have enough room. In this case, “enough room” isn’t defined as the location where you will locate your plasma TV, but rather the distance between the viewer and the TV. For example, there should be at least eight feet of space between you and a 37-inch plasma screen, and at least 15 feet of space between the viewer and a 50-inch plasma TV.

2. Connections: You should choose a plasma TV that has the kind and number of outlets you need for the other components of your home theater system. Some of the available connections include component video, high-definition multimedia interface, A/V jacks, digital visual interface, and S-video.

3. High Definition: Some plasma TVs come equipped with high-definition tuners, while others are simply HDTV-ready. If you’re going to invest in a plasma TV, you should go with the high definition that you can afford. Look for at least 720 pixels as the second number in the resolution description. For example, a 1024 x 768 plasma screen is high definition; an 853 x 480 resolution is not.

4. Mounting: There are several ways to mount plasma TVs, so think about whether you are going to mount yours on a stand, flat against wall, or from the ceiling – then make sure to hardware for installation.

5. Remember to compare plasma HDTV prices online to get the best possible price and value for money.

Enjoy! Once you’ve made your selection from among the many plasma TVs on the market and installed it in your home theater, be sure to sit back, relax, and enjoy your new purchase for many years to come!

Home Organization, You Either have it or You Do Not

General September 30th, 2009

Where are you and your family on the scale for home organization?  Would you say, “Yep, we’ve got it together and we can find what we need when we need it” or “We’re a mess, we’re stressed out and we have to keep buying duplicates because we lose everything.”  The first step is recognizing that much of your stress is related to not having your house in order. Get started and you will start feeling the stress go away…

Now keep in mind, a home doesn’t have to be perfect or look perfect to be considered organized.

So, where do you want to be?  How important is it to you to have an organized home?  I will share a few of the benefits we enjoy due to an organized home:

1.    We aren’t cramped.  We have everything we need without excess.  We have room to add something new.

2.    We don’t have to run around searching frantically for anything.  If we need something, we can go right to it.

3.    We don’t have the stress of stuff hanging around that needs something done to it.  If it’s broken we fix it or get rid of it.  If it doesn’t fit, we pass it on.  If it’s ugly-we admit that it’s ugly and get rid of it!

4.    We enjoy belongings because they mean something to us, not because we have just taken in a bunch of stuff.

5.    We have the papers we need at our fingertips, no more, no less.

I know I benefit from home organization as do my clients.  You can to!
