Omaha’s nearness to Offutt AFB in Bellevue makes it a wonderful location for military families to setting down and settle into civilian life. As personnel redeploy from the various conflicts around the world, they’ll need to make a lot of decisions on where to move a family for the long term. They should definitely consider the Omaha area.

Omaha does a great job of balancing city life with the more relaxed country lifestyle. There’s a down home feeling among the residents of Omaha, probably because of its roots in farming. The corn fields are not so distant that residents have forgotten their beginnings (or their manners).

With the countryside close at hand, one is never too far from the joys of spending time outdoors with the family. It is a very short drive (in fact, a short walk, depending on where you call your home) to the powerful Missouri River, where you’ll find three seasons (at least) worth of fun. Playing on the river is a popular pastime, especially for those of us who like to go fishing for some channel cat every now and then. But water sports are also a big hit on the river, and you’ll find water skiers enjoying their sport all summer long.

If you are a military family, you probably already know that Bellevue is the home of the base. But there are other tracts in town that are close to Offutt, and they are good choices for school districts as well as homes.
