There is no place better vacation destination than Southern California if you are a lover of thrill rides. In fact, two of the coolest theme parks for coaster enthusiasts can be found in the Los Angeles area. Although the Disneyland Resort does offer some fun rides, it is not in the Top Two.
Here we’re speaking of Knott’s Berry Farm and Six Flags Magic Mountain (aka Magic Mountain to the locals). As a means to compete more effectively with the Disneyland Resort, one Southern California vacation writer notes that these two theme parks have invested a tremendous amount of cash in developing their thrill rides over the years.
Magic Mountain is crazy with wild coasters; the place is lousy with thrill rides. If you are visiting with folks who don’t care as much about thrill rides, you’ll still find plenty to do; check out the Southern California Vacation Guru for useful ideas.
Knott’s Berry Farm also has really focused on thrill rides, although they offer Camp Snoopy, Ghost Town and many other fun attractions and themed areas within the park. We have talked to employees who can confirm that several of the roller coasters at Knott’s will push you to the limit of comfort.
Speaking of dinner, if you go to Knott’s, don’t forget to allow time to eat at Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant. It is a landmark, serving thousands of dinners weekly since the Great Depression years. Check out the Southern California Vacation Guru for insider information and tips for having the best time at Knott’s. You can find out about nearby hotels, and also about the many other vacation opportunities in Southern California.
You can learn about the other Los Angeles-area theme parks, namely the Disneyland Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood. You’ll find some fun thrill rides at other parks, but they don’t stack up to what they offer at Six Flags Magic Mountain. I hope this is helpful if you love coasters!
